In modern society, it seems like we are flooded with information daily. However, when it comes to expert topics, like getting a loan or seeking legal advice, it feels like there’s too much information – who and what are you meant to trust?
This is why Lifestyle Queensland has introduced an “Ask an Expert” feature, where local experts can give legitimate advice on tricky topics. We’ve only chosen the best of the best in areas like law, finance, mechanical and more.
This offers you the opportunity to brush up on valuable knowledge without ever leaving the comfort of your couch. It also allows you to learn more about local businesses in an obligation free environment, whilst deciding whether their services and expertise suit your wants and needs.
Do you have a topic you’d like one of our experts to cover, or think you’ve got the expertise to answer our readers questions? Then email us at email@example.com with “Ask an Expert” in the subject line!
Solicitor, Brett Smith & Co
If you don’t currently have a Will, I strongly recommend you consult a Solicitor now.
Constructural errors in wills lead to litigation.Correctly identifying beneficiaries and executors is critical. Resentful family who have been excluded from your Will may litigate.
In that event, your estate is at risk of being eaten away in legal fees and by the nature of that litigation your wishes may not survive. Everyone’s legal fees usually come out of the estate.
A recent decision in the Queensland Supreme Court dated 31st January 2018 saw a decision concerning the construction of a deceased’s Will made in June 2002 at a time immediately prior to the Testator’s death. After 16 years of litigation the Queensland Supreme Court ultimately determined the outcome. This litigation was a result of incorrect wording in the Will insufficiently identifying the beneficiaries of the estate. The preparation and execution of your Will is not a document to be taken lightly. An experienced Solicitor can ensure that the corpus of your estate both real and personal is distributed as you intended.
In closing, be mindful that you can’t reach from the grave and make your wishes known afresh. Come in and see me as soon as possible to ensure that your wishes are met.

Is salon shampoo a con to make you spend more money? The answer is absolutely not! It is superior to supermarket brands, for a number of very good reasons.
Firstly, you need to work out what concerns you need your shampoo to target. Is your hair dry, damaged, thinning, or colour treated? A hairdresser can assess the current status of your hair and find products that work to target your problem areas.
Secondly, many supermarket brands use cheap ingredients to keep costs down, like silicone that isn’t water soluble. Products with this type of silicone will give the illusion of a good shine for a couple of days, but over time it will attract buildup on the hair, drying it out and causing the conditioner to sit on the surface – meaning the hair dries out. Due to lack of moisture, the hair will become very brittle and could lead to frizz and breakage.
Thirdly, while you may think you’re saving money on a cheaper shampoo, it often strips the beautiful colour your hairdresser has done for you, meaning more salon trips and more money.
At Mwah Hair Designers, we’re proud to use Matrix Professional products. Come in and find out how your hair is designed to feel with an at home treatment plan catered to your needs.
Andrew McClure Mechanical
Many vehicle owners overlook the importance of servicing their vehicles regularly. The reality is, your car needs to be serviced every 10,000km driven or every six months.
Here at Andrew McClure Mechanical, I have been seeing a lot of cars lately that are going over the servicing time which only causes major problems for the car, such as sludge build-up and lack of oil pressure. Think of your car’s engine as the heart of your car – if it’s not in peak condition, you will have engine failure. It’s also essential that all engine fluids, tyre pressures, brakes and suspension are checked on a regular basis.
While some manufacturers of vehicles are recommending servicing every 15,000km, my opinion is that time frame is far too long. As someone that’s worked in the motor vehicle industry for 33 years, customer care is of the utmost importance – and prevention is always better than an emergency fix.
At Andrew McClure Mechanical, we have the latest diagnostic equipment to detect any problems early on. And don’t forget with winter coming, your battery should be checked as cold weather effects the performance of your battery. So if you’ve been delaying a service or battery check, give us a call on (07) 3294 1782 to consult with our friendly staff – ASAP.

Best craft beers of New Zealand
When you think of New Zealand what comes to mind first? Green mountains, skiing, bungee jumping, Lord of the Rings?
When I think of New Zealand the first thing that pops into my head is “Awesome Beer” – does that make me sound like I have a problem?
Right now at Tap’d at the Prince Alfred Hotel we are showcasing some of the best beers New Zealand has to offer with over 25 different New Zealand craft beers pouring.
We have beers from the likes of Epic, 8 Wired, Panhead, Mata, Croucher, Ruapehu, Hop Federation, Hallertau and Liberty. Here are some of my personal favourites from all the NZ beers we’re pouring. Epic’s Hop Zombie Double IPA is one the best beers I’ve tried to this date. Bright tropical fruit hop aromatics with melon, white grapes and a mild sweet malt.
The taste follows the same profile and carries a strong bitterness. The mouthfeel is smooth without being too resinous, leaving lingering flavours of lemon and bitter grapefruit.
Liberty’s Oh Brother Pale Ale is another stand out beer for me. This pale is very easy drinking with a brilliant golden colour and crisp white head. Aromas of passionfruit and mango with a touch of malt follow through into the well-balanced taste. This beer has the right amount of tropical fruitiness and biscuity sweetness to make it an absolute doozy.
The final beer I want to mention comes from 8 Wired Brewing and it’s their Cucumber Hippy Berliner Weisse. Bursting with sweet cucumber notes, balanced by lemon peel and tropical fruits. On the palate this beer is puckering, but very refreshing, full of cucumber, citrus and balanced by light hopping, finishing very clean. This is one of the most refreshing beers you’ll come across and perfect for those hot summer days.
It goes without saying that all these New Zealand beers won’t be on tap at Tap’d forever so make sure you take a trip to the Prince Alfred Hotel soon and give them a try before they’re gone.

Why are cat vaccinations vital?
Cat vaccinations help to protect your pets from severe infectious diseases and passing anything nasty on to other animals.
To help protect kittens they’ll need three sets of vaccinations to start: their first set of vaccinations at 6-8 weeks, then again at 8-10 weeks and then at 10-12 weeks. After this, cats need ‘booster’ vaccinations every 12 months.
There are three major cat diseases caused by viruses that are highly infectious and cause serious illness, even death: Feline panleukopenia is a highly contagious and deadly viral disease, and few cats recover from an attack. Cats of all ages can be affected but kittens and young cats are especially at risk.
Feline respiratory disease or “cat flu” is a highly contagious disease. Kittens and young cats are usually more severely affected. Recovered cats may become ‘carriers’ and spread the disease to other cats.
Feline leukaemia virus (FeLV) is spread through fighting or by grooming each other. It causes an immunodeficiency syndrome like feline AIDS and predisposes the cat to other illnesses and cancer.
In addition to vaccinations your cat should have regular health checks to ensure that any dental, skin, eye, ear or other health issues can be diagnosed and treated early. Our friendly and trained team can also provide you with a wealth of knowledge on a nutritional diet for your cat based on breed, age, weight and activity level.
For more information on how you can protect your fur family or to book in for a vaccination or health check please contact our closest clinic and speak with one of our trained and friendly vets or nurses.
