Whether you are new to Ipswich or have lived here for years, one local business has been caring for the pets of the area for 49 years – Booval Veterinary Hospital.
The vets who care for your pets are also the owners of the clinic, so when you deal with the vet, you know you are getting the best of care.
Ipswich Vet Group owners Dr Craig Render, Dr Jason Wendt and Dr Scott Campbell between them have over 60 years of Veterinary experience, and have over the the years built a professional and caring team who are able to take the stress out of providing the best care for your pet.
Booval Veterinary Hospital is the largest of the three clinics owned and operated by Ipswich Vet Group. As a purpose built vet hospital that has just completed a full refurbishment it provides extended hours of operation and emergency support for their clinics located at Brassall (Pine Mountain Vet Clinic) and Karalee (Karalee Village Vet Clinic).
Booval Vet Hospital is honoured to have the privilege of providing veterinary care for the Military Working Dogs and Explosive Detector Dogs at RAAF Base Amberley, and they are also involved in teaching the Advanced Animal Handlers about providing emergency care for their dogs in the field.
The Booval Veterinary Hospital over the years has grown to become the largest and longest-serving clinic in the area. Located just near the Booval train station, the clinic is open 7 days a week, including till 8pm on weekdays. They are open every day of the year (except Christmas Day) for your convenience.
“We have a fantastic team of motivated, compassionate vets and nurses with between them over a century of experience in the industry, all of whom are dedicated to the health and wellbeing of their patients. They will care for your pet as they would their own,” said co-owner and Veterinarian Dr Craig Render.
“All of our vets and nurses are trained to exceptionally high standards and are supported by excellent, modern facilities with state-of-the-art equipment and technology.

“Microchipping is one of the best inventions for pets I’ve seen in all my years as a vet,” Dr Render said. “We get lost pets handed in every day, and if they are microchipped we have a nearly 100% success rate of finding the owners! In almost all cases the pets have been picked up the same day. ‘Microchipping’ is when we inject a chip, smaller than a grain of rice, under the skin of your pet. That chip has all your details on it, and if your pet is lost and then found by someone, all the information is there so you can be reunited.
Microchipping your pet is very inexpensive, and in most cases its less than $50, but getting your pet back is priceless.
“We recommend a pet check up at least annually. This enables us to check their health, weight, flea and worm prevention, plus of course vaccinations and Heartworm prevention status. Once your pet is in our system we can send reminders – via post or SMS – about treatments and upcoming examinations, giving you peace of mind that your pet’s health is being taken care of.”
Booval Veterinary Hospital also carries a large range of foods to suit all pets, especially those with special dietary requirements.
“We also have a big range of specialist health foods for your pet, from weight management and kidney-friendly foods, to foods that aid with urinary tract issues. We also carry a range of parasite preventions and treatments, plus treats, toys and accessories,” Dr Render said.
“Vaccinations are a great example of prevention being better than cure. The cost of treatment for things like Flu in cats and Parvovirus in dogs can be very expensive, so regular health checks and vaccinations are a much cheaper option in the long term.
“Flea and tick treatments, gut worming, Heartworm prevention … they can all help avoid potentially dangerous and costly disease in your pet. We tailor all treatment to suit each patient, plus our software system keeps extensive records with built in reminders…so you’re in safe hands!”
