There’s a barrel of laughs and fun to be had at the Ipswich Art Gallery these school holidays. Headlining the entertainment for the Term 3 Break is the Slapdash Galaxy world of the Bunk Puppets!
This is the tale of Sam and Junior: two brothers, who must flee their barren planet, and embark on an epic quest across the galaxy. Using the contents of your cleaning cupboard, Bunk Puppets’ David Geddes conjures up astonishing lo-fi theatrical wizardry using only old boxes, bubble wrap, drinking straws, tennis balls, ping pong bats and old toys. It’s a crazy shadow puppet universe, made from bits of rubbish.
Award-winning Bunk Puppets, creators of ‘Swamp Juice’ and ‘Sticks Stones Broken Bones’, present this delicious, DIY theatre event. Forget what you think you know about shadow puppets, buckle-in for an epic journey with two brothers as they battle the bad guys, and find strength in each other at warp speed.
Recommended for ages 5+, bookings are essential and cost is $7 per person. Online bookings close at 9am for sessions that day, and limited walk-in tickets may be available on the day for purchase in person from the info desk (unless the session is fully sold out).
The Bunk Puppets have various show times between the 22nd September and the 7th of October. Visit www.ipswichartgallery.qld.com.au.
For those kids that want to get a little more hands on, you can create your own moveable shadow puppet! Make a bird, a toothy monster, a kooky character or design something that is uniquely your own. Transform your creation with pipe cleaners, ribbon and a range of different craft materials then explore how it makes coloured shadows on the wall. What dazzling show can your puppet create? Take your puppet home for more fun with shapes and silhouettes. The Shadow Puppet exhibition will be open from 10am-5pm daily, with kids and adults welcome to stay for as little or as long as they like. No bookings required for family groups!
